Eastern Bangkok’s Bangna neighborhood, has traditionally been perceived as a peripheral and industrial neighborhood.
However, it is gradually shedding its “gritty” image and transforming into what some property professionals are dubbing the “Extended Business District”!
Bangna’s gradual rise to prominence, can in large part be attributed to its strategic geographic location as Bangkok’s gateway to the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). Bangna is well connected to the industrial parks of the Eastern Seaboard and hosts a number of logistics companies and distribution hubs. Making it Thailand’s prime industrial hub and an important thoroughfare for the country’s imports and exports.
Since 2017, Bangna has been gradually transitioning from a neighborhood with an industrial function, into an appealing lifestyle and residential area!
Better Mass Transit Coverage and Travel Convenience
Bangna was previously only served by the BTS Green Line (BTS Bangna Station) however the area is in the process of welcoming numerous transport links. This will inevitably bring greater connectivity and convenience to the district.
MRT Yellow Line (Lat Phrao-Samrong)
Part of the MRT Extension network, the new Yellow Line is currently under construction and is due to complete in 2021. The ambitious 30.4 Km Line will offer Bangna residents a way to easily connect from BTS Samrong to Lat Phrao in North Bangkok.
Light Rail Bangna-Suvarnabhumi Line
Currently under study and part of the MRT Master Plan, this light rail project could connect BTS Bangna to Suvarnabhumi. The 18.5 Km Line will run along Bang Na-Trat Road with a total of 14 stations.
Relocation of Eastern Bus Terminal
Plans are currently underway to relocate the Eastern Bus Terminal, currently located in Sukhumvit’s Ekkamai to the Bangna area. The Terminal is currently the main bus and minivan station linking Bangkok to Thailand’s Eastern Provinces such as Trat, Rayong, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, Chonburi, and Pattaya.

Bangna Lifestyle and Residential Options
The infrastructure and expansive developments will inevitably continue to transform Bangna into an important transport, business and residential hub. However, it is important to note that the neighborhood currently host an established and well-integrated residential community!
The area currently hosts some of the most prestigious International Schools in the Capital notably Bangkok Pattana School, Berkeley International School, Thai-Singapore International School, Concordian International School, St. Andrews International School and many others.
This makes the area appealing to young families and as a result there are numerous well-established housing and townhouse developments in the neighborhood. This includes high-priced housing compounds such as Blue Lagoon, Lakeside Villa, Krisada Nakorn and Baan Issara.
If Bangna continues its development and urban transformation trajectory, it is likely to gradually start appealing to young working professionals that usually populate the Central Business District.
